Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 13 year old boy has made IPL history as the youngest player ever to be signed in the IPL. Tajpur has been making headlines ever since the talented youngster from this small village in Bihar was snapped up during the IPL mega-auction by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for a whopping price tag. The selection was based on his stellar performance in the Royals’ trials for searching for new talents in Nagpur, where he shined with the bat during the trials of RR.
Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi? His Early Life and His Father’s Sacrifices
Vaibhav’s cricketing journey was started at the age of four, when his father who is also a farmer saw that he have potential in cricket. His father built a small practice area in their backyard to nurture and support his passion, and then he made the ultimate sacrifice by selling his farm to fund Vaibhav’s cricket training. This is not a small thing to do as a father.
V.Suryavanshi can’t really pay back for the support his father has provided to him to nurture his talent. At the age of nine, he became a part of a cricket academy in Samastipur and received all the guidance he ever needed under former Ranji Trophy player Manish Ojha’s mentorship, who was an influential figure in his life right from the very first day of his cricketing journey with a club.
Rising With Performance
Vaibhav’s sensational journey began at the age of 12 when he scored around 400 runs in five matches while representing Bihar in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. His batting skills and ability of playing great shorts in Vinoo Mankad Trophy had earned him a place in India B for an Under-19 quadrangular series, during which he impressed with the bat against several best upcoming players from different countries, including a score of 41 against England.
At the age of 12 years and 284 days, he was invited to an Under-23 selection camp after which Vaibhav made his first-class debut for Bihar in one of India’s premier domestic cricket tournaments, the Ranji Trophy, and he went down in history.

V.Suryavanshi’s debut for India Under-19 against Australia was well in the memory, have made a century while playing for India Under-19, he also made the fastest-ever ton in just 58 balls in Youth Tests as an Indian. His brilliant show took India to the Under-19 Asia Cup 2024 final, where he made two half-centuries to prove his mettle once again.
He made his List A debut just after his international exploits and good performances in the domestic circuit. In the 2024/25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he played a blistering knock of 71 off 42 balls for Bihar against Baroda, emphasizing his ability to bat aggressively.

Vaibhav, who was bought for ₹ 1.1 crore by Rajasthan Royals, had caught the attention of many, and RR captain Sanju Samson has big plans for the young talent. Samson has lavished some compliments on Vaibhav in a recent interview.
“The confidence he possessed on the field, as well as his power-hitting ability, is amazing. He was clearing boundaries with unmatched ease in practice,” Sanju Samson said.
“I’d rather watch how a youngster plays his cricket and the sort of support he needs. We will provide him with advice so that he can improve more. Vaibhav is already a very good player. People are talking about his power-hitting, and he seems to be capable of doing some damage,” Samson said.
He also stressed that they prioritized creating a supportive environment for young players, as they wanted Vaibhav to be a future star for India.
What‘s Next For Vaibhav?
The 2025 season of IPL and the Rajasthan Royals’ campaign will start against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 23. Though it is hard to say how early Vaibhav will get his maiden IPL chance, what we do know is that his journey has been nothing less than an inspiration! It is only a matter of time before he represents the Indian jersey at the highest level, given how quickly he has made the step up.
