Delhi – India has found a revelation in Shreyas Iyer in the Champions Trophy 2025 against all odds, he’s proving to be the solution for No 4 batsmen of India. After losing his BCCI central contract, Shreyas Iyer was sidelined from the national squad and then he had surgery during these days, but this Mumbai batter has mounted a remarkable comeback. Not too many critics are raising their voices after Shreyas Iyer’s performances and he is re-establishing himself as one of India’s reliable middle-order batters as it is really tough for any batter from India to replace him from the 4th position of Indian batting line-up in ODIs.
This come-back of Shreyas Iyer will enable individuals to rebound from setbacks and continue to work hard for success in India’s cricketing world.

Shreyas Iyer’s last year has been really tough, as he lost his central contract with BCCI and also the Test squad exclusion could have been a huge psychological blow for any cricketer. But Iyer used adversity as motivation. Opening up about his struggles, he recently shared that difficult phases teach self-sufficiency.
“There are no true people coming together for things that matter, you’ve got to have the confidence in yourself and have the self-belief,” he said. It is self-belief that has contributed to his revival.
Shreyas Iyer’s return to the ODI side in the home series versus England proved decisive. Not one of the two dozen initially named to the starting XI, he got his chance when Virat Kohli’s injury proved to be an opportunity for him to perform. He capitalized on this by scoring a couple of half-centuries in three matches and finishing the series as the 2nd highest run-getter, his `hunger for runs is back’ in the words of the erstwhile India coach, Ravi Shastri, and it has reflected on his performance all through the Champions Trophy.
Journey of Come-Back for Shreyas Iyer in The ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Iyer has been a key player for India in the tournament, helping the Men in Blue reach the semi-finals. After struggling to get going against Bangladesh, he returned to form in style with two successive half-centuries against Pakistan and New Zealand. His innings of 79 versus New Zealand proved to be vital and helped India set a challenging total of 249/9 on a spin-friendly pitch in Dubai. Since India’s top three batters went out earlier in the powerplay, Iyer’s innings proved to be the backbone of the team’s total.
Most notably, his struggles against the rising bounce of short-pitched deliveries have been met with a much more positive response in his batting. Much of the credit for this transformation belongs to India’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nair. Iyer, who has been mentored by Nair since his first days in Mumbai cricket, has been instrumental in adding flourish to his hitting technique and building his confidence, as per Shreyas Iyer.
The Solution for No 4 Batsmen of India
The No. 4 spot in ODIs has been one of the most hotly debated positions in Indian cricket over the years. Especially in important tournaments, India has been unable to find a consistent performer for this slot. Iyer has subsequently established himself as the right man for this job with his fluent stroke-making ability, and adaptability combined with a cool mind, which helps him to stay on the wicket and score runs during critical stages of the match. His knack for building partnerships during pressure situations, accelerating the inning as per the requirement of the score-board, and taking the team towards a position that can help the team to win matches makes him a complete package for India’s middle order.
Iyer’s contributions are actually not limited to his batting, He is also a great fielder on the ground. He is someone who saves lots of runs with his extraordinary efforts on the field. Finding a batsmen who can give great efforts in fielding is really tough for any team. So Shreyas Iyer is a complete package for the Indian cricket team right now and for the coming years till he can keep performing like this.

Shreyas Iyer for World Cup 2027 and Beyond
If Iyer carries on like this, he may sound the trumpets for India in the 2027 World Cup, which is to be hosted in South Africa. The conditions of South Africa will require some proper technique against pace and bounce during that World Cup and something Iyer has gone about actively working on. He has an ability to counter difficult conditions and has the hunger for runs and both of those makes him a strong candidate for a long-term role in the Indian setup for big tournaments in which India will play.
“With the Indian team undergoing a transition phase, seasoned players like Iyer provide stability. He already has proven that he can play the role of an anchor or a finisher. Given his present ability and self-belief, India should stick with him as their permanent No. 4 and India shouldn’t be experimenting needlessly,” Akash Chopra said while backing Iyer.
Akash also said that Shreyas Iyer will be closely watched in the Final of The Champions Trophy 2025. But right now he has overcome his struggles and is a living example of hard work while his best working days are still ahead of him if his best performances are anything to go by.
