BCCI’s New IPL Rule: Harry Brook Ban in IPL

Brook was purchased for INR 6.25 crore by the Delhi Capitals at the mega auction in November 2024 but he had withdrawn from the upcoming IPL season. According to a new IPL rule, a player who signs up for the auction but pulls out before the start of the season will be banned from two IPL seasons, as well as two-player auctions. The BCCI official also confirmed the decision and said that the rule had been put in place for all players before they registered for the mega auction 2024.

“An official communication has already been sent to ECB and Harry informing them of BCCI banning Harry Brook for two years under BCCI policy, which was communicated to each player before their participation in the IPL auction last year. It’s a policy enforced by the board, and all players should abide by it,” a BCCI official said to The Indian Express.

Due To Which Reason Harry Brook Withdrew Himself From IPL 2025?

Harry said commitments to the national team were the main reason for his withdrawal. He stressed that he wanted to concentrate on being ready for the coming series, including a major home Test series against India in June and then an attractive Ashes series from November 2025 to January 2026.

“I have come to a very tough decision to withdraw from the upcoming IPL. “I extend my unreserved apologies to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters,” Harry said in an official statement.

“It’s a really important time for England cricket, and I want to focus all my energy on preparing for the upcoming series. To this, I initially need time to recharge after the busiest period of my career to date.”

Harry admitted he would not have made himself popular with a large section of cricket fans with his decision but could not ignore the fact that representing England was still the number one goal.

“I know not everyone will understand, and I don’t expect them to understand, but I feel I have to do what I believe is right. Representing my country is my priority and focus,” he added.

Brook’s IPL Stats and Past Withdrawal

This will not be the only time for Harry to miss out IPL season. He withdrew from the tournament in 2024 because of his grandmother’s death. Harry, who made his IPL debut in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, has played in 11 matches in the league, scoring 190 runs, including a memorable century.

Although he is an exceptional player, Brook’s repeated withdrawal from two IPL seasons has led to harsh consequences. As a result of this two-year ban, Harry won’t be able to participate in IPL 2025 and 2026, which is a big blow to his plans to play in the franchise league of IPL.

Sourav Ganguly responded to BCCI’s decision of A Two-Year Ban on Harry Brook.

In an interview, former Indian cricketer ‘Sourav Ganguly’ was asked about the ban imposed on Harry, and he responded in favor of BCCI and backed the ban.

“When we will have bigger matches, bigger stars, we will have to think about it,” said Sourav Ganguly.

“It clearly shows how much the IPL has grown further. Moving forward, such things are going to matter,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Final Note

The BCCI’s strict stand for the implementation of its new pronouncement goes on to highlight the value of dedication from the overseas cricketers in IPL. Their absence has had bad implications, which have ruled him out of taking part in the world’s richest T20 league for two years.
