In the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Will Young has been impressive with the century he made against Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi. He had shown great skill, calmness and composure under pressure situations in the opening match of this tournament in front of the hosting team and a huge crowd of Pakistan supporters. Young looked really steady and was playing very easily against the challenging bowling attack of Pakistan.
Facing early setbacks with the loss of three wickets, including a notable dismissal by Abrar Ahmed, Young’s performance has provided the most required stability for New Zealand after losing three big wickets. He had played the bowlers very well and maintained a steady run rate which has been really crucial for building the innings and setting a strong foundation for a competitive total. This was Will Young’s fifth ODI internationals century.
Young’s innings were full of required shot selections and effective rotation of the strike to keep building pressure over Pakistani bowlers, ensuring to maintain the momentum despite the fall of wickets from the other end. His partnership with Tom Latham has been instrumental in countering steadily Pakistan’s strong bowling lineup in their home conditions with his positive intent across the innings he had played.
William Alexander Young was born on 22nd November 1992 in New Plymouth, New Zealand. He is a right-handed batsman who is known for his solid technique and composure under pressure just like the way he has shown in this opener of Champions Trophy. He began his professional career with Central Districts during the duration of the 2011-2012 season, and then quickly he made an impact in that level of cricket.
He was leading the side in the Ford Trophy in 2016 and won the title for his team in that edition and also led the Plunket Shield in 2018. Young has made his international debut in December 2020, and since his debut in the international cricket for New Zealand, he has been one of the most consistent performer across all formats for the New Zealand’s national cricket team.
